What are we doing?
We believe that considering the environment plays an important role in all of our activities, especially given the school’s outstanding achievement of gaining Green Flag status. We liaise on a regular basis with the school’s Eco Forum to maximize the opportunity for joint eco-initiatives.
We have been working on ways to make everything we do more environmentally friendly:
We have launched a number of recycling initiatives in which both students and parents/guardians can participate, whilst also raising funds for good causes. To date these initiatives have raised over £1000 for school causes at no cost to participants. These include regular textile recycling weeks and a home/office ink cartridge recycling scheme.
Fundraising through our recycling initiatives will help Weald to support environmental projects selected by the Weald of Kent Grammar Eco Forum.
We are also ensuring that all purchases of disposable items such as cups, cup holders, stirrers etc. are biodegradable. Any plastic, paper and glass waste produced at school events is recycled at home/school.
WOKPTA is developing a virtual office in the cloud to enable committee members to share information and avoid unnecessary printing. It also helps to reduce the number of meetings we need which also minimises our fuel usage. Wherever possible we are communicating with parents and students via electronic means, and have also initiated payments for many activities via ParentPay, both of which have significantly reduced our paper usage.
The school policy is for all purchases of catering supplies such as tea, coffee and sugar to be from sustainable resources and designated as Fairtrade products.
Please continue to recycle your old ink cartridges through Weald. We filled our first bin in just 8 weeks and collected over £150!
Original and remanufactured cartridges are accepted: HP, Lexmark, Dell and any Canon labelled: PG37, PG40, PG50, PG510, PG512, CL37, CL38 CL41, CL51, CL52, CL511 and CL513.
Spare recycling bags are located in Reception. Remember, Weald good causes will earn £1 for every recycled original cartridge and 50p for every remanufactured cartridge.
