On Friday 3 February, the Year 13 A Level PE students visited the Sport Science Labs at Canterbury Christchurch University. The students took part in a number of lab-based fitness tests, including the VO2 max and Wingate tests, as well as a range of field-based fitness tests. The students showed excellent levels of interest and enthusiasm throughout the day and enjoyed applying the knowledge they have learnt in the classroom. They were a credit to the school and impressed the university staff with their in-depth knowledge of anatomy and physiology. A special mention to Adam, James and Callum who really pushed themselves to complete the maximal fitness tests whilst in the labs. It was a pleasure to take this trip, and we look forward to taking the Year 12s later in the year.
Luxembourg Euro Meet 27-29 January 2023
Two Weald 6th form swimmers, Matt (Y12) and Caitlin (Y13) represented the South East of England at the Luxembourg Euro Meet from 27 to 29 January.
A great weekend of racing and the chance to experience the big atmosphere of an international swim meet with music, flashing lights and pyrotechnics! They also got to meet 2 popular Olympic swim stars Ben Proud (GB) and Chad Le Clos (South Africa)!
Matt’s highlight from his 3 individual races was setting a new PB in 50m breaststroke to finish 6th in Juniors; he was also part of the Mixed Medley Team who finished 9th.
Caitlin had 4 individual races and qualified for 2 x B finals and 1 x A Final. She loves the flashing lights and finals razzmatazz! She also raced in the Mixed Freestyle relay and Mixed Medley relay where her team just narrowly beat Matt’s team into 8th place.
All sixth form Media Studies students spent two days and one exciting night in London last week. The trip included a morning at BCW international PR agency, a trip to the Museum of Brands, dinner at the Hard Rock Café, and next morning a lecture at the University of Westminster. It was a fantastic two days for everyone involved.
16 year 10 students competed in the first round of the above national competition. There were 2 groups from Sevenoaks and 2 groups from Tonbridge. This involved over an hour of Chemistry questions and puzzles which they had to solve as a team. The papers have now been submitted for marking and we anxiously wait to see if our team have progressed to round two in January, or the National finals in London in the summer.
A huge well done to Erin who has been selected for the Kent Netball Player Development Programme. It is one of two PDP groups in the U17 age group in the London Pulse Franchise. This is a fantastic achievement, and we are really proud of her.
At the beginning of November, Caitlin in year 13 and Matt in year 12 successfully swam at the Swim England South East Regional Winter Swimming Championships at Winchester. They have now both been selected to represent the South East Region at the Luxembourg Euro Meet in January 2023.
On Friday 18 November, a team of 12 athletes from Y7 & 8 competed in the Junior Knole Run. Twenty-one teams were competing with a total of 177 runners in the field.
We are extremely proud of our U16 Netball team who played at the Kent County Netball Finals on Friday, 25 November. The team played incredibly well against the best schools in Kent and we ended up in fourth place. We were the highest placed non-fee paying school and the whole team showed an excellent level of skill, determination and teamwork throughout the day. Well done!
This past weekend, Sumie in Year 12 competed at an international fencing competition in Germany. The previous weekend she was in another international competition in Sofía, Bulgaria.
The Weald of Kent cross country team participated in the Regional round of the English Schools Cups on Saturday 12th November at Vizzards, Judd School. The Senior Team finished an impressive 5th place, behind strong performances from Judd, Croydon High and Guildford High. The Intermediate team finished in 6th place behind Guildford High, Farnborough Hill and Wimbledon High, the standard of racing was exceptionally high. The Junior girls were the last to race but put in a strong performance to finish 6th behind Kent College Pembury and Reigate Grammar. Unfortunately, none of the teams progressed through to the final in Leeds this year but they should be very proud of their efforts this season. Next stop.....Knole Run!
