Our Years 8/9 Rugby team recently participated in a festival in Worthing, West Sussex. The team, lead by parent volunteer Ed Stockbridge of the Tonbridge Juddians, competed hard all day and displayed excellent skills and determination. The tournament consisted of 3 divisions of 5 teams. In the round robin games Weald went 4-0, outscoring their competition with a combined score of 24-4 tries! This dominance put the team in the top tier, Cup bracket for the finals.
The team went 3-0 in a much closer finals round facing the stronger teams. The day ended with their final match against the only other undefeated team in a winner-takes-all game. Weald lead the match until the final minute, surrendered a tying try. Rather than share the title, both schools decided to end the match on the pitch with overtime needed to determine a winner. Unfortunately Weald came up short as the other team scored first, however the style of play and way the girls conducted themselves over the day was very admirable. Congratulations on an excellent tournament finishing 2nd out of 15 teams!
