Key Stage 5

A level Mathematics is very popular and there are currently four classes in Year 12 and three classes in Year 13. Further Mathematics is also available and we have a few students who choose to study Further Mathematics alongside the Mathematics A level.

Students currently have a choice about the A level units that they study

Option 1 Mathematics (with Statistics)

Students choosing this option with sit the following Edexcel unit examinations

Core 1 Core 2 and Statistics 1 (at the end of year 12)

Core 3 Core 4 and Statistics 2 (at the end of year 13)

Option 2 Mathematics (with Mechanics)

Students choosing this option with sit the following Edexcel unit examinations

Core 1 Core 2 and Mechanics 1 (at the end of year 12)

Core 3 Core 4 and Mechanics 2 (at the end of year 13)

Further Mathematics

Students who choose Further Mathematics also have to take one of the options above.

In addition they will study a further 3 units for AS or 6 units for A2

For the AS they must choose Further Pure 1 and then any two of the other units available.

For the A2 they must have Further Pure 1, Further Pure 2, Further Pure 3 and then any three of the other units available.

Other units available are S1, S2, M1, and M2 (except those that are part of their A2 mathematics course) and also S3, M3 and D1 are available.
